New Arrival

It finally arrived! If you can't tell, that is the floor for my car along with the seat platforms. It was a long wait, full of lots of frustrations and phone calls... but we have it now. It was crazy all we had to go through to get this. After it being back ordered for months at one place... we order it at another place only to find out a week later that they also have it back ordered. So we finally caved and bought better quality through another place for twice as much as we were planning on spending.

Originally we were told it would be here yesterday. So imagine my frustration when nothing arrived. Mike called the place and they told us it actually shipped out a day later than they had originally told us, but they assured us that it was in transit and would arrive today or tomorrow.

Anyways... I am very glad to finally have this. It was a huge stress waiting on this thing. So now we can finish some last minute cleanup, and start the welding/building up process. I'm excited!!

The Floor Saga Continues

So originally we ordered the floor about 6 months ago. We were first told we would have it in two weeks. Two weeks came and went, no door. We then talked to them they told us it was back ordered and would be a few more weeks. Well the weeks turned into months.

Finally we got frustrated and ordered the floor through another place. They told us the floor would be here the following week (which was last week). So Mike called them on Monday, and they admitted it was back ordered and it would be 3-4 weeks.

So Mike called another place to get the floor. We were assured that this floor is US made vs the other floors we ordered that were apparently from Taiwan. The downside, is that this floor is costing more than double the price of the other floor. At least we know it will be good quality... plus they assured us that they were shipping it out that day, and we would have it by Thursday (tomorrow).

It will be interesting to see if we get the floor or not. I am so tired of the whole floor drama and just want it here so we can get going on the car. I have been so frustrated with the whole deal lately. It seems like everything is pretty well on hold until we can get this darn floor. It frustrates me that we have waited so long for it. I am anxious to see progress made on the car. I am determined we will have it done by this time next year... so we really need to get going on it.

So I guess maybe I will have some good news tomorrow.... or maybe not. I guess we will just have to wait and see if the fed-ex guy shows tomorrow. So everyone keep your fingers crossed.

Day 29... More Paint Stripping

Mike spent a good part of the day yesterday out in the garage. I spent that time doing a project in the house, but made sure to sneak out and snap a few pictures as he worked. He started out by stripping the paint from the new drivers side door. He was able to get it completely stripped and ready to be painted.
He then did some scraping and grinding on the undercarriage of the car as well. I love his breathing mask. In fact, it was making me nervous every time I would walk in to take a picture. He would stop grinding before I would approach, but it still made me nervous thinking all the gunk going into my lungs for the short time I was in there. I am glad he wears a mask, or I imagine his lungs would be a nice shade of red by now from all the red paint particles.
He then decided he would continue working on the passenger door. He got most of the paint stripped from the passenger side door. He still has to take the guts out of it, and do a little more stripping, but it is probably 95% stripped.
Sadly, it is rusted through on the passenger door in the bottom corner. Mike assured me that it wont be that big of a deal fixing it. Metal will be able to be grafted in. It wont have the stamped look the metal in that area has, but the weather stripping should cover it. It is crazy how the rust shows up in places you wouldn't expect. I thought we were done finding rusted out spots on the car, but I guess not. At least this one should be a pretty easy fix.

So we are now looking other places for the floor. We are a bit tired of waiting for it. So Mike is going to make some calls tomorrow and find the best place to order it from. We will end up spending more for the floor than this place we were going through, but not much we can do. If we ever want to get the car done, we need to get the floor here so we can work on getting it in.

It is exciting seeing things happen. My dining room (where we are storing all the car parts) is pretty full. It will also be exciting when the new floor gets put in. That will be a milestone for the car since everything we are doing at this point is tearing it down. So to finally start the process of building it back up will be pretty exciting!

Back Ordered yet again!

So we are still waiting for the floor to come in for my Mustang. Word has it it has been back ordered again! So alas we have decided that the time has come to cancel that order and find another place to purchase the floor through. Sadly it means we will probably end up forking out more money for it, but at least we will get it. I am starting to believe the floor we ordered will probably be back ordered for the next 5 years! So we are now just comparing prices and deciding the best route to go on the floor. It will be exciting to someday get my floor and get going on the car again. In the meantime, we still have a few parts coming in. We are still waiting on the steering wheel which is also back-ordered, but should hopefully get here soon.

So all-in-all.... we haven't done much with the car lately other than stock piling more car parts, but hopefully we can soon get the floor so we can get back to work. I still have a hard time believing that the hunk of metal on the rotisserie out in the garage will someday look like it did when my dad owned it.
